Mental Health Act Administration

Work undertaken includes:

  • Developing statutory forms and model letters to reflect the amended Act
  • Improving communications between provider units and the Mental Health Review Tribunal (MHRT) secretariat
  • Testing the recommendations of 2006 MHRT report and preparing for national roll-out
  • Producing a handbook for the amended Mental Health Act
  • Briefing NHS Connecting for Health on IT specification requirements for the amended Act and for MHRT
  • Preparing training for MHAA on the amended Act

A report on the Mental Health Review Tribunal Improvement Pilot (April-June 2006) is avaailable for dowload here. This eight week pilot project aimed to identify areas of good practice that could be adopted nationally to improve the Mental Health Review Tribunal appeals process for detained patients.

The interim report on Plan Do Study Act cycles on the Recommendations Arising from the MHRT Improvement Pilot can be downloaded here (uploaded August 2007).
